ABOUT THE 10 HOUR COURSE

In accordance with Texas Administrative Code Title 37 and Texas Occupations Code Chapter 1702, starting January 2024, the Defensive Tactics and Firearms portion of the Level 3 training must be conducted in person, and must be between 10 and 15 hours in length.

This course is the completion of your Initial or recertification PSB Level 3 training required by DPS.   Upon completion of your online course with the vendor of your choice (contact us for recommendations), you will receive a certificate of course completion for the online training (form number PSP-30 or 31). This certificate must be completed by an approved Training School and Approved Instructor.

Our newly designed course includes the mandated hours of in person self-defense tactics and firearms training. This is a 2 day course.

What is included in the 10 hour course:

  • Defensive tactics instruction
  • Use of handcuffs
  • Expandable baton use
  • Basic firearms instruction
  • Firearms range training
  • Firearms Qualification
    • Shotgun qualification if needed
  • OC (Pepper spray) Instruction and qualification

Day 1 will include 7-8 hours of classroom training located in New Braunfels TX. This will include Defensive tactics, Use of Handcuffs, Baton use, use of OC Spray and basic firearms fundamentals.

Day 2 we will meet at the shooting range for approximately 3 hours where you will receive training in; Firearms Safety, the proper use of your holster, basic Firearms fundamentals, and the firearm qualification course. While at the range you will also complete your OC (Pepper Spray) qualification. We do not use an inert training OC spray in the classroom, you do not get sprayed with live OC. If desired, we will include the Shotgun qualification at no additional cost.

Fees cover everything except your TOPS application fees and your ammunition and firearm rental if needed.

BIANNUAL REQUALIFICATION

For Current Level 3 Security officers who require the biannual requalification, we have developed our requalification process that is completed entirely on the range (approximately 3 hours). We will conduct a refresher on Personal tactics, Expandable Baton use, OC spray refresher, and the Firearms qualification. We place a strong focus on your firearms skills prior to the qualification. Our Firearms training course exceeds what is required by DPS. We conduct a “tune up” on your basic fundamentals, then focus on topics like moving and shooting, engaging targets faster, shooting from cover and more. We include the Shotgun qualification at no additional cost.

Fees cover everything except your TOPS application fees and your ammunition and firearm rental if needed.

Required Equipment:

  • Serviceable Semi auto pistol or revolver. 9mm and .38 cal are the minimum caliber size allowed my DPS (rentals are available at the range)
  • magazines or speedloaders for revolvers if desired
  • outside the waistband strong side holster and a quality belt or your duty holster and belt is recommended
  • 50 rounds of ammunition is the minimum, 100 rounds is recommended if you want to practice before the test
  • Shotgun if conducting the Shotgun qualification (rentals are available at most locations)
  • 9 rounds of 00 shot if conducting the shotgun qualification
  • Hearing and eye protection
  • Online certificate of completion (PSP 30 or PSP 31) MUST be sent to us prior to the training

What will it Cost:

We require a $50 non-refundable deposit when you book the 10 hour class to guarantee your seat, space is limited. The Balance is due prior to the class start date. If you fail to leave a deposit, your seat can be lost if we book to capacity. This includes the day 2 range qualification, range space is also limited. Deposits will be considered non-refundable for no shows or same day cancellations. Rescheduled classes can apply the original deposit.
